sustainable Viticulture

Terra Bella’s high-elevation site and hillside topography allows for a longer ripening period, improved tannin maturation, and deeper fruit color. The altitude and proximity to Clear Lake make for ideal conditions for viticulture, with plenty of fresh air circulation, avoidance of frost, and uniform ripening. This makes for complex, flavorful fruit with fresh natural acidity.

Our low-impact, Certified California Sustainable approach to viticulture utilizes innovation while honoring nature. We harvest both by hand and machine, according to our clients’ wishes. And we practice minimal leaf removal and suckering by hand for better air circulation, protection of the fruit from direct exposure to the sun, and health of the crop.

Terra Bella receives 25 to 30 inches of rainfall per year. Advanced monitoring stations throughout the vineyard—including wireless leaf sensors and soil sensors—track water availability, stress index, and leaf temperature differentials. Our drip irrigation and fertigation system’s remote-control valves allow us to utilize water supply strategically for maximum impact throughout the growing season.
